Theramotion’s tips for a healthier you this new year!
With a new year, and new decade, upon us now is the perfect time to make health your number one priority. Here is a list of a few small things to keep in mind for a healthier you this new year:
Be present.
Life, especially in New York, can get hectic. And it’s certainly normal to feel stressed once in a while. However, when you find this stress interfering with your everyday life, remember to simply take a few deep breaths and be present. Whether ‘being present’ involves putting your phone down for a few minutes, reading a good book, or taking a brisk walk, a few simple mindfulness minutes a day can dramatically improve your mood and stress levels.
Maximize your exercise!
This doesn’t mean go from 0 to 100. A 30-minute walk per day is even enough; but don’t leave it at just that. Try and include some light weight training and muscle-building exercises to improve physical results. Aim for this at least twice a week, in addition to taking a walk each day (or whenever is possible).
It’s all about portion control
Have you ever heard the phrase “everything in moderation, including moderation”? If so, extend this philosophy to your diet as well. Instead of focusing on the new “in” diet, practice portion control with the foods you enjoy eating. Portion control, along with being mindful of what you eat, can significantly improve your weight and overall health.
Schedule your annual doctor’s appointments
The last, and most obvious, piece of advice is to stay on top of your appointments. A routine doctor’s appointment can help ensure better health and preventing a potentially life-threatening illness, such as heart disease or even cancer. Your health should always be a priority!
Before beginning any new diet or exercise regimen, it is important you consult with your physician or specialist.
